explicit Instruction
SEL is explicitly taught in EQ Essentials and EQ Seminar classes. Additionally, our Middle School Sports and Expeditions programs focus on further developing these skills.
In the Middle School years, EQ Essentials and EQ Seminar leverage cognitive growth to continue developing emotional regulation skills, social problem-solving, prosocial decision making and executive-functioning skills. During this period of rapid change and growth, students have more opportunities to direct their learning process, advocate for themselves and be responsible for their words and actions. They also learn to grapple with issues unique to adolescence, such as identity, body changes and digital citizenship.
