Philanthropy at Synapse School

Synapse is an independent, private school that relies on our community of generous supporters, donors, and volunteers to enable us to provide our students with an inspiring, emotionally intelligent, vigorous learning environment. Philanthropic gifts to the school are essential to sustain the excellence of the program that our students benefit from every day.

Every family is asked to make philanthropic gifts to Synapse School each year, commensurate with their means.

Fundraising

Annual Fund

Each year we launch the Synapse Annual Fund to help support our Mission: educating change makers. The Annual Fund that fuels the engine of our school program represents the largest source of non-tuition revenue for the school and is the backbone of our fundraising efforts, supporting current-year costs. The funds sustain our exceptional program—from teacher salaries to financial aid, supplies for classrooms to sports transportation. These tax-deductible gifts help our students as soon as they are received.

Synapse has reached 100% participation in every Annual Fund since at least 2016-17. This is a testament to the profound support we have received from our community. Our "Give Yourself" Annual Fund allows Synapse to invest in our students beyond what tuition alone makes possible. Some initiatives supported by the Annual Fund over the years include:

Computer science program
Teacher professional development
Subsidized shuttle service and Middle School sports transportation

Spring Benefit

Each year, Synapse hosts a social event for parents coinciding with an online auction fundraiser. The emphasis of this fundraising effort is on community, soliciting special kinds of community building donations for the online auction and bringing the entire Synapse community together for the Spring Benefit celebration. This event is usually held in the spring and is a chance for the community to come together in support of a specific goal. In recent years our Fund-a-Need has raised additional money to increase our Financial Aid Program. Though not required, we are grateful for those who support these efforts and events.

Capital Campaigns

Capital CampaignS

Capital campaigns are initiated to raise money to support larger projects including, but not limited to, updating and expanding the school facilities, creating endowments for scholarships and other long-term goals. These campaigns are special gifts and are only launched when the Board and leadership have decided on a compelling reason for asking families to provide additional, special investment beyond the Annual Fund & Spring Benefit. We launched our first "Campaign for Synapse" in April 2019, and completed successfully, surpassing our goal. Campaign contributions are not required by families though we welcome the support of this strategic fundraising effort.
