Mission, Vision, Values

We recognize organizations are groups of people co-creating to build something they can’t build themselves. The way we co-create is by making commitments that are aligned with a shared mission. We make and honor ambitious commitments so what we build is amazing. That means we strive to hold our commitments with persistence and grit and if we can’t, we communicate and address the issue immediately. We grasp the entire constellation of our commitments and our capabilities so we make commitments we can honor and say no when we don’t think we can. 

We frame issues in a positive way. Positive feedback is proven to help people learn. We actively and visibly embrace joy, we laugh, we play, and we are kind because it’s more fun and more effective to interact that way. We are grateful for who we are and what we have and have compassion for people and place.

Once we decide on a course of action we commit to carrying it out “all-in,” with energy and the entirety of our minds, bodies and moods. We do not require consensus to make decisions. We consider decisions from all sides in a respectful, positive, and supportive way and identify decision makers who have the final say.

A healthy body is the basis for effective action, so we take care of ourselves and each other. We sprint on occasion to follow through on our ambitious commitments, but not all the time -- accomplishing our mission over the long term requires our most healthy selves.

We maintain effectiveness in the midst of continual change by being versatile. We celebrate and invest in ourselves and our adaptability. We can’t control what happens, we can control how we respond. As we say with our kids, mistakes are beautiful. We are respectful of failure and iteration.

Our natural bias is everyone we work with is committed to the mission and acting to support the mission. If we interpret someone acting in a way that we think is counter to the mission, values or strategies of the organization, we respectfully raise it with them assuming good intention.
